You might ask what was I thinking when I decided to go to a penis park in South Korea. To be totally honest, I have no clue what I was thinking! It was a friend’s birthday (Alex). We all made our way to the park from the main bus terminal near Hoenggye in Kangneung. We all arrived in Samcheok and made our way to the park, I never really knew what to expect but I went with it. When we all arrived at the park it was a strange feeling to realize that I will be looking at a million super sized mandongs. It’s a great way to destroy a man’s self confidence and ego.
We entered the park and everyone was in good spirits. The park turned out to be really beautiful. You follow a path which includes a coastal section which is truly a spectacular. It turned out to be such a relaxed and chilled day which is exactly what I was looking for. It’s always great to see friends and catch up on teaching strategies, teaching groans and travelling experiences.
So the story around this park is that there was this virgin girl who was in love with a fisherman. One day she stood next to the ocean waiting for her true love to return. He never did as his ship was sunk in a storm. For a while after that the catches were extremely bad until a man one day faced the ocean and played with himself. This released the 'bad spirit' and the catches became plentiful. This supposidly inspired all the penis statues you will see pretty soon.
